Klinker Brick’s Old Vine Zinfandel is a wine that comes in an absolutely gorgeous bottle. A simple brick pattern and minimal text all painted directly on the glass without a paper label really makes this one stand out on the shelf.

If you like wines with a nice bite and high acidity, this is a good Zin for you, thanks to it’s 15.8% ABV.

Made with grapes from the Mokelumne River in the San Joaquin County side of the Lodi Appellation, this is a medium-full bodied Zin with a rich burgundy color that delivers nicely for it’s price point – but it is in a bit of a middle ground for us. At $19 a bottle it has to compete with a few nicer wines that are a few dollars pricier, so it starts to fall short. A couple of dollars less and this would be a massive winner in it’s price category.

Chad's Notes

This was a really good Zinfandel (I might have liked it a bit more than Lynne did).

It's barely dry at all, just a hint really. It opens with a nice, sweet plum flavor. It has a sharp bite that seemed to fade a little after the first glass, but maybe that's just the high alcohol content kicking in 🙂

It has an acidic aroma with nice notes of toffee.

Coming from a smaller winery and not being well known, this is one I'd be excited to see on a wine list.

Lynne's Notes

This wine had a moderately full body and that bite due to it's alcohol content that I tend to enjoy, but it fell a bit short for me. I liked the wine, but definitely wasn't wowed by it - I think Chad enjoyed it a bit more than I did.

I would drink it again if presented with it, but wouldn't look for it while out to eat or at a liquor store.
